Assistant Controller
North Texas Natural Select Materials (NTNSM)
Position Objective
The Assistant Controller will serve as a key leader within the finance function, responsible for enhancing the integrity, timeliness, and scalability of NTNSM’s financial reporting and control environment. This role will partner closely with the CFO to support data-driven decision-making, optimize financial processes, and position the organization for sustainable growth.
Core Responsibilities
Process Improvement & Strategic Support
- Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable accounting and reporting processes
- Create SOPs for all departments, train team members, and establish cross-training backup processes.
- Gain an understanding of process improvements from operations so the Company improves electronic processes monthly.
- Review existing processes and identify key software to either improve existing processes, align with existing software, or identify a new ERP system to strengthen our ability to grow.
- Implement systems with ease, within budget and on time.
- Meet with key stakeholders at a minimum weekly to identify weaknesses and establish solutions around existing process gaps.
- Improve alignment between accounting operations and business performance.
- Enable the CFO to focus on capital strategy, growth, and high-value initiatives
- Mentor the accounting team so they have a solid support system for operations during all operational hours.
Financial Reporting & Close
- Lead and continuously improve the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Oversee revenue recognition, expense classification, and accruals in accordance with GAAP
- Ensure integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts
- Prepare and review accurate and reliable financial statement schedules for fixed assets and debt.
- Manage account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Strengthen and formalize internal control structures and processes
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
- Support audit readiness and manage external audit deliverables
- Research and apply appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions
- Support implementation of new accounting standards as needed
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Deliver actionable financial insights to support operational decision-making
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial trends
- Support cash flow management, liquidity planning, and working capital optimization
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated success improving close processes and internal controls.
- Advanced Excel and ERP system proficiency.
- Experience with Quickbooks, Sage or similar accounting software.
- CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred.
