Position Summary
The School Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain the buildings, grounds, and facilities of the school in safe and efficient working condition. This role ensures a clean, safe, and functional learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on school facilities & mechanical equipment, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general building systems.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders.
Conduct regular inspections of school grounds and buildings to identify issues and safety hazards.
Assist with the setup and teardown of furniture, equipment, and spaces.
Maintain grounds, including landscaping, snow removal, and general outdoor upkeep.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Monitor and maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.
Coordinate with outside contractors when specialized maintenance or repairs are required.
Document work performed and maintain accurate records.
Provide support in emergency situations and respond to urgent facility needs as necessary.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
2 years of experience in general maintenance or related field preferred.
Working knowledge of building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry.
Ability to read and interpret manuals, blueprints, and work orders.
Ability to operate heavy equipment such as tractors, forklifts, loaders, etc.
Be familiar with chemicals and equipment involved with fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Physical ability to perform manual labor for 8 hours a day, lift heavy objects, and work in various weather conditions. Be able to perform a physical assessment upon demand.
Valid driver's license required.
Pass a background check.
Working Conditions
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and climbing ladders.
Work may take place indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
May be required to respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours.
