North Reading High School is seeking a School Counselor Long-Term Substitute. This assignment is tentatively from May 11, 2026 through June 24, 2026 (end of the 2025-2026 school year). North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential.
Essential duties
- Provide personal, educational, and career counseling through group and individual meetings
- Assist each student in the development of an appropriate academic program
- Monitor the progress and growth of all assigned students
- Assist assigned students with all aspects of the post-secondary planning process
- Support the implementation of the department's developmental programming and other responsibilities of the department
- Register and support the orientation of new students
- Manage 504 accommodation plans for assigned students
- Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of School Counseling Services, High School Principal, or Designee
Requirements
- Master's Degree in a related field
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license in Professional Support Personnel, School Guidance Counselor, grades 5-12
- At least one (1) year of related experience preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft products, Naviance, Google applications, and other related educational platforms
- Knowledge of current trends in education and counseling
- Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to education
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others in the support of student, school, and district goals
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
