The Nurse Intern at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for performing routine nursing procedures and tasks under the supervision of a nurse, documenting patient information in the electronic health record, and maintaining good standing in the nursing school program. Qualifications
Education
- Associate's Degree Must be enrolled in one of the final two (2) semesters of a nursing program leading to an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Employment as a Nurse Intern may not extend beyond a two semester period.. Required
Work Experience
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Must maintain good standing in the school of nursing where enrolled.
- Must be able to use equipment essential for patient care and follow hospital guidelines for non-critical equipment cleaning.
- Must meet and maintain continuing education requirements.
- Maintains knowledge and resources necessary to provide age appropriate care.
- Must be able to recognize changes and abnormalities in the patient’s condition and report to the registered nurse.
- Must be able to perform collect blood (by venipuncture), urine and sputum specimen.
- Must be able to perform point of care testing for glucose and occult blood.
- Must be able to insert simple urinary catheters with the assistant of other licensed nurse.
- Must be able to prioritize patient care, perform assigned duties and report to the registered nurse/ charge nurse.
- Maintain all of the NMHS Behavioral Standards.
- Required to project a positive presence and professional image to all patients, families and others.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills.
