What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mother/Baby Clinical Educator, Women's Hospital, Full-Time position at North Mississippi Health Services?
Staff Education/ Training
- Evaluates need for/ develops and implements continuing education programs for licensed staff in assigned area promoting critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Develops content for/ provides annual review for Mother Baby Unit, Resource Pool, as well as all unit coordinators and nursing assistants in Women/Children’s Service Line.
- Provides Women’s Hospital Orientation for nursing staff new to Women/Children’s Service Line.
- Reviews documentation of each Mother Baby and Resource Pool nurse at least twice per year, or as needed for ADVANCE submissions.
- Serves as a clinical resource for nursing staff in areas of responsibility.
- Provides means for staff development and on-going competency to ensure safe and effective patient care.
- Maintains and reviews educational record of nursing service employees, including competency checklists and compliance with annual review requirements
- Organize and oversee unit specific orientation for employees on the Mother Baby Unit
- Assist with customer service training; i.e. CARES instructor
- Participates is evidenced-based quality improvement initiatives outlined by the Mississippi Perinatal Quality Collaborative
- Assist with/oversee unit based performance improvement projects
- Develop and review nursing policy and procedures for Women/Children’s service line, Mother Baby Unit and WSL Resource Pool and maintain policies in NAVEX
- Collaborate with nursing director and nurse managers to coordinate and schedule educational offerings for WSL employees and nursing students
- Participate in constant survey readiness activities and assist during accreditation surveys
- Organize and oversee activities to promote patient safety and optimal patient outcomes; i.e. Safety Week
- Assist with education programs to promote breastfeeding and the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Communication:
- Maintain communication with multi-disciplinary team members to provide holistic care to patients.
- Provides timely and accurately communication with nursing staff on all shifts, ancillary staff and physicians. Patient Education:
- Assists with Pre-admission and Discharge classes as needed
- Assist with Lactation Education as needed Requirements:
- Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Mississippi.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required or completed within one year of transfer, Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- ACLS certification preferred
- BLS and NRP instructor within two years of moving into position.
- Minimum of two to four years previous clinical experience in maternal/child nursing.
- IBCLC or CLC certification preferred or completed within two years
- Previous experience with teaching/ nursing preceptorship preferred.
- Working knowledge of computers and software programs, required.
- Working knowledge of office equipment (scanners) and audiovisual equipment, preferred.
- Ability to develop policies, procedures, skills checklists, competencies.
- Must maintain department requirements for continuing education, as well as any specific unit requirements to provide care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients
- Knowledge of regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
