This role will handle advanced echocardiography procedures, including Transesophageal Echo, Pericardiocentesis, and Structural Heart procedures, and have the expertise to perform pediatric echo studies.
Job Functions
- Perform a complete & accurate 2D Adult Echocardiogram under general direction across all main unit areas: portable & STAT echoes, cardiac observation unit, outpatient, and inpatient echoes. Perform Sonographer Intermediate requirements, protocols and procedures related to main unit echocardiography under general direction: M-mode, 2 Dimensional, Spectral and Color Flow Doppler, Stress Echo, Transesophageal Echo without probe manipulation, Pericardiocentesis, Septal Ablations, Bubble Study, Optison Contrast Protocol, Trans-jugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS), Transesophageal Echo with probe manipulation including; OR, Structural Heart procedures (Watchman, MitraClip, TAVR).
- Perform pediatric echo studies for outpatient, inpatient, PICU/ NICU, across main unit and women health center locations.
- Experienced ability to perform cardiac echo measurements & calculations accurately and independently.
- Ensure timely and accurate upload and edits of echo studies.
- Demonstrated ability to independently perform detailed cardiac echo measurements and calculations to recognize cardiac disease processes.
- Responsible for ensuring adequate maintenance of adequate inventory of supplies.
- Responsible for ensuring appropriate preparation of echo lab for each day (printing schedule, stocking supplies as needed, maintain a clean and organized work area).
- Ensure timely and accurate charting, filing, and charges for Echo department.
- Actively engage in correlation studies/reviews for maintenance of accreditation and intradepartmental educational purposes.
- Ensure accurate and timely work-up and completion of Epic and Change reports.
- Lead and Coordinate Echo staff education once quarterly.
Education
- Associate's Degree The incumbent must be a registered cardiac sonographer and preferably a graduate of an accredited ultrasound program or NMMC Echo Internship, which includes training in cardiac ultrasound. Required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support
- ACLS
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- ARDMS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- ARDMS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- CCI - Cardiovascular Credentialing International
- 1-3 years. Cardiac experience. Required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Applied knowledge of cardiac anatomy, cardiac disease processes and the effect of these disease processes on the cardiac structures and blood flow required.
- Knowledge and use of computerized ultrasound and echocardiography equipment required
- Proficiency in Tele-Tracking; required
- Proficiency in serving patient population ranging from fetal to geriatric; required.
- Assists with preparing echo lab for the following day (printing schedule, stocking supplies as needed, maintain a clean and organized work area)
- Must be proficient in McKesson Cardiology system.
- Function efficiently with little to no supervision as well as in team environment.
- Must be able to prioritize and organize workflow and patient flow (i.e. sending for patients appropriately to prevent ebbs and flows in work volume)
- Ensure adequate staffing for department when needed or directed by Structural Heart & Echo Manager
- Serves as resource mentor for Echo department.
- Demonstrate commitment to optimizing department costs/expenses through maintenance of departmental inventory and quality needs.
- Must demonstrate excellent leadership communication skills
- Demonstrate AIDET and CARES in all interactions
- Must maintain positive, professional relationships with physicians, advanced practice nurses, support staff, vendor representatives, affiliate staff.
