Job Description
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and student-centered Head Varsity Baseball Coach to lead its high school baseball program. The coach will be responsible for setting the overall direction, culture, and standards of the program while fostering an environment rooted in education-based athletics, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
The ideal candidate will be a transformational leader who prioritizes athlete development—athletically, academically, socially, and emotionally—while working collaboratively with the school community to build a program that represents North Middlesex with pride.
This position oversees all aspects of the program, including varsity-level instruction, staff supervision, game strategy, player development pathways, communication, safety oversight, and creating a strong connection to the JV and youth baseball communities.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Vision
Establish and communicate a clear program philosophy grounded in education-based athletics, character development, and continuous improvement.
Build a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture that promotes accountability, sportsmanship, and pride in representing North Middlesex.
Provide leadership and mentorship to all players and assistant coaches within the baseball program.
Coaching, Instruction, & Player Development
Create and deliver high-level practice sessions that incorporate skill development, position-specific instruction, situational baseball, conditioning, and mental preparation.
Teach advanced baseball techniques in hitting, pitching, fielding, base running, and game IQ.
Develop players across all levels of the program and coordinate with JV coaches to create a unified skill progression.
Provide ongoing performance feedback and individualized development plans.
Game Strategy & Competition
Develop scouting reports, game plans, and competitive strategies tailored to opponents and team strengths.
Manage game-day decisions, including lineups, substitutions, pitch counts, defensive alignments, and situational strategy.
Promote sportsmanship and model composure and professionalism at all times.
Academic, Social, and Emotional Development
Promote academic responsibility and monitor players’ academic progress.
Support athletes in developing leadership, resilience, communication skills, and responsible decision-making.
Serve as a positive role model and uphold the values of the North Middlesex School District.
Program Operations & Administration
Oversee assistant and JV coaches, ensuring consistent coaching philosophy and expectations across the program.
Manage all communication with parents, players, staff, and the Athletic Director.
Maintain all baseball equipment, uniforms, and program inventory.
Organize preseason meetings, player evaluations, off-season expectations, and optional skill development opportunities (in line with MIAA rules).
Safety, Compliance, & Risk Management
Ensure all practices and games are conducted safely, following MIAA, NFHS, and district policies.
Monitor athlete conditioning, proper warm-up/cool-down routines, and injury prevention practices.
Report and respond to injuries appropriately and communicate with the school athletic trainer.
Maintain current certifications including First Aid/CPR, Concussion Training, and NFHS Coaching courses.
Community Engagement & Program Growth
Build positive relationships with parents, youth programs, and community partners to support long-term program success.
Promote the baseball program within the school and community through active involvement and outreach.
Encourage participation and support student-athlete retention across all grade levels.
Qualifications
Required
Previous baseball coaching experience, preferably at the varsity or collegiate level.
Strong knowledge of baseball fundamentals, advanced techniques, and game strategy.
Demonstrated ability to lead a program, manage a coaching staff, and mentor student-athletes.
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Ability to promote academic success, personal growth, and character development.
Must meet all MIAA and NFHS coaching requirements, including:
NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
NFHS Concussion in Sports
CPR and First Aid Certification
MIAA Coaches Education Requirements
CORI/SORI background checks
Preferred
Prior experience as a head varsity coach or collegiate-level athlete/coach.
Experience in developing pitchers, catchers, or advanced position-specific skills.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field.
Salary : $5,842 - $6,659
