Position Overview
The Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach supports the Head Varsity Baseball Coach in leading a comprehensive, competitive, and education-based baseball program. This position plays a key role in player development, practice planning, program culture, and game-day operations. The Assistant Coach is expected to uphold the mission and core values of the athletic department, promote a positive team environment, and help guide student-athletes to grow on and off the field.
Key Responsibilities
Player Development & Instruction
Provide direct instruction in baseball fundamentals, including hitting, fielding, pitching, baserunning, and positional techniques.
Offer individualized coaching and feedback to student-athletes throughout practices and competitions.
Assist in implementing the program’s skill progression, systems, and player development plans.
Support athletes in setting goals and working toward continuous improvement.
Practice & Game Preparation
Assist the Head Coach in designing and executing daily practices, drills, and film sessions.
Help manage equipment, practice set-up, and transitions between drills.
Participate in scouting opponents and developing game-specific strategies.
Support all game-day functions, including warm-ups, positional group management, and in-game adjustments as directed by the Head Coach.
Program Administration
Assist with player evaluations, tryouts, and roster decisions.
Help maintain equipment, uniforms, and field spaces in partnership with the Head Coach and athletic department.
Support transportation logistics, communication of schedules, and coordination with school staff as needed.
Contribute to offseason preparation including workouts, preseason conditioning, open fields, and skill sessions (within state and school regulations).

Ensure adherence to all school, conference, and state athletic association policies.
Maintain awareness of safety protocols and respond appropriately to injuries or emergencies.
Support required administrative tasks such as attendance tracking, incident reporting, and certification maintenance.
Qualifications
Required
Strong understanding of baseball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and player development.
Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, and school personnel.
Commitment to the values of education-based athletics.
Willingness to complete all required coaching certifications and background checks.
Preferred
Previous coaching or competitive playing experience in baseball.
Experience working with high school student-athletes.
CPR/First Aid certification.
Knowledge of strength training principles and offseason development practices.
Work Environment & Expectations
Available for weekday practices, evening games, and occasional weekends.
Participation in preseason and offseason sessions as permitted.
Collaboration with the entire baseball coaching staff to ensure alignment across all levels of the program.
