Nissitissit Middle School Basketball Program Assistant Coach

Job Title: Middle School Basketball Program Assistant Coach School: Nissitissit Middle School (North Middlesex School District) Job Description The North Middlesex School District is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Assistant Coach for the Nissitissit Middle School Basketball Program (Grades 5–8). The assistant coach will support the Head Coach in all aspects of the program while helping to create a positive, inclusive, and development-focused experience for student-athletes. The ideal candidate will assist with practices, skill development, supervision, and gameday operations while serving as a positive role model for middle school student-athletes. Key Responsibilities Program Support Assist the Head Coach with the organization and daily operations of the basketball program. Help plan and run structured practices focused on fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Support a positive and safe team environment that promotes growth, confidence, and enjoyment of athletics. Skill Development Assist in teaching basketball fundamentals including shooting, passing, dribbling, defense, rebounding, and teamwork. Work with student-athletes of varying skill levels to encourage improvement and development. Reinforce team expectations, effort, and positive habits during practices and games. Gameday Responsibilities Assist with bench management, warm-ups, substitutions, and game operations. Supervise athletes during practices, games, team meetings, and travel. Model and promote positive sportsmanship and behavior at all times. Mentorship & Communication Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes. Encourage teamwork, accountability, and respectful communication. Support communication between coaches, athletes, families, and school staff as directed by the Head Coach. Safety & Compliance Help ensure all safety procedures and injury-prevention protocols are followed. Supervise student-athletes appropriately during all team activities. Comply with all North Middlesex School District and MIAA coaching requirements, including: NFHS Concussion in Sports First Aid & CPR Certification CORI/SORI Background Check Qualifications Required Knowledge of basketball fundamentals and teamwork concepts. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, student-athletes, and families. Must meet all district coaching requirements. Preferred Previous coaching or playing experience in basketball. Experience working with middle school-aged students. Passion for education-based athletics and student development.
