Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistant Coach for the Indoor Track & Field Program. The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach to support all aspects of the program, focusing on skill development, athlete mentorship, and preparation for competition.
This role requires a positive leader who can coach athletes across various events, reinforce team culture, and provide individualized guidance to help student-athletes succeed both on and off the track.
Key Responsibilities:
Support Athlete Development
Assist in planning and leading practices across sprints, distance, jumps, and/or throws.
Provide instruction, feedback, and encouragement to athletes of all ability levels.
Help foster leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork among student-athletes.
Collaboration with Head Coach
Work under the direction of the head coach to implement training plans and event strategies.
Support meet preparation, including lineups, warm-ups, and event coverage.
Communicate consistently with the head coach about athlete progress and needs.
Mentorship & Positive Role Modeling
Serve as a mentor for student-athletes, emphasizing academic accountability, personal growth, and healthy habits.
Uphold program values of inclusivity, respect, and responsibility.
Build strong relationships with athletes, parents, and school staff.
Event & Meet Responsibilities
Supervise athletes during practices, competitions, and travel.
Provide event-specific coaching during meets to maximize athlete performance.
Ensure safe participation and adherence to NFHS/MIAA rules.
Safety & Compliance
Assist in maintaining a safe practice and competition environment.
Follow all district, MIAA, and NFHS requirements and guidelines.
Encourage healthy training, recovery, and injury-prevention practices.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Previous experience as a track & field coach or athlete.
Strong knowledge in one or more event areas (sprints, distance, jumps, throws).
Effective communication, motivational, and organizational skills.
Commitment to supporting student-athletes in academic and personal growth.
Must meet all district, NFHS, and MIAA coaching requirements, including:
NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
NFHS Concussion in Sports
First Aid & CPR Certification
MIAA Coaching Education Program
CORI/SORI Background Check
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience coaching at the high school level.
Ability to coach multiple event groups.
Collegiate track & field experience (athlete or coach).
Experience mentoring student-athletes in both athletics and academics.
Salary : $4,402 - $5,029
