Head Indoor Track Coach

Job Title: Head Coach – Indoor Track & Field (Boys and Girls) School: North Middlesex Regional High School Location: 19 Main St, Townsend, MA 01469 Job Description: North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Coach for the Indoor Track & Field Program. This individual will oversee all aspects of the boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams, focusing on skill development, conditioning, team culture, and preparation for competition. The head coach will provide leadership that fosters growth in athletic performance while supporting student-athletes’ academic, social, and emotional development. The program emphasizes inclusivity, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility both on and off the track. Key Responsibilities: Program Leadership & Development Oversee all aspects of the indoor track & field program, including sprints, distance, jumps, and throws. Design and implement structured training plans that balance skill development, conditioning, and injury prevention. Establish a culture of high expectations, respect, and accountability. Practice & Competition Management Organize and lead daily practices with clear objectives for all event groups. Prepare athletes for dual meets, league meets, and postseason competitions. Develop lineups and event entries that maximize both team success and individual growth. Athlete Development & Mentorship Provide individualized feedback and support to athletes across all events. Identify and mentor team leaders while creating opportunities for athletes to embrace responsibility. Encourage student-athletes to set and pursue personal and team goals. Collaboration & Communication Coordinate with assistant coaches to ensure high-quality instruction in each event area. Maintain regular communication with athletes, parents, athletic trainers, and school administration. Work closely with the athletic director to align with district philosophy and goals. Safety & Compliance Prioritize athlete health and safety, emphasizing proper warm-up, recovery, and injury prevention techniques. Ensure compliance with MIAA, NFHS, and North Middlesex policies and eligibility requirements. Monitor academic progress and support student-athletes in balancing school and athletics. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Previous coaching and/or competitive experience in track & field. Strong knowledge of event-specific training methods and strategies. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes in a positive and inclusive manner. Must meet all district, NFHS, and MIAA coaching requirements, including: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching NFHS Concussion in Sports First Aid & CPR Certification MIAA Coaching Education Program CORI/SORI Background Check Preferred Qualifications: Prior head coaching experience at the high school level. Multi-event coaching expertise (sprints, distance, jumps, throws). Collegiate competition or coaching background. Proven ability to build a strong team culture and postseason success.
