2026-27 Library Assistant

REQUIREMENTS

Education:  High School Diploma or GED.

Experience:  None.  Previous experience in school library setting preferred.

Physical Requirements:  Constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination.  Frequent walking, speaking, writing, bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, hearing, turning, and repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers.  Some lifting up to 30 lbs.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Other Requirements:  Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills.  Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, email, and internet.  Ability to work with frequent interruptions and to keep information confidential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

1. Conducts daily operations of assigned library.
2. Assists in circulating materials; maintaining collection and circulation records.
3. Supervises student activities in the library media center.
4. Assists in teaching information skills, directing research, and developing/evaluating curriculum.
5. Maintains professional resources for instructional staff.
6. Assists students and staff in selecting and locating books and other media.
7. Assists with the selection, requisitioning, ordering, and cataloging of all media and supplies.
8. Assists in the inventory of materials and equipment.
9. Manages overdue book process.
10. Re-shelves returned books and other materials in a timely manner.
11. Trains and supervises student assistants and volunteers.
12. Schedules use and distribution of audiovisual equipment; provides instruction of use of such equipment.
13. Participates in cross walk duty rotation before and after school hours at elementary schools.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
