Position Summary: The North Little Rock School District (NLRSD) is seeking exceptional applications for the position of Security Captain . This role will assist with the management of security services across all fifteen (15) school sites and all central office departments and functions. The position will assist the Director of Safety Services (Director) in the task of providing a safe and supportive learning and working environment across the entire district.
The Security Captain will assist the Director by providing direct supervision to the Security Sergeants and Commissioned School Security Officers, as well as the overall management of all Security Officers and School Crossing Guards. Additionally, the Security Captain will oversee all training and certification requirements for all security personnel as well as professional development training regarding security procedures to all NLRSD staff.
Ideal candidates should be committed to high standards for safety and security with a successful background and experience working with security processes, procedures, structures, and training. The NLRSD is beginning its transformational journey to high academic excellence and the district is seeking security leaders to assist in ensuring the safety of more than 8,000 students and over 1500 employees.

The Security Captain’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain constant daily communication and contact with the Director concerning the day-to-day operations of school security services.
- Assist with the implementation of a comprehensive district wide security plan which includes a comprehensive Crisis Response Plan.
- In accordance with the National Incident Management System, serves as Second-in-Command to the Director and responds to NLRSD sites in a crisis.
- Assists in the development and implementation of security plans for special events involving the school facilities within the jurisdiction of the North Little Rock School District.
- Coordinates and provides on-going training and assistance to site-based administrators and central office administrators in matters of safety and security services.
- Advises and assists site-based administrators in matters involving criminal activities on school
- Advises and assists site-based administrators with their direct supervision of Security Officers and School Crossing Guards while providing annual and ongoing training.
- Assists/advises in the development of crisis management/emergency response plans as part of each school’s safety plan.
- Reviews NLRSD policies and procedures related to school safety and security to ensure compliance and implementation of best practices for NLRSD schools and programs.
- Prepares memos, reports, drawings, related to safety and traffic issues on school campuses and forwards those to Maintenance or other appropriate locations.
- Works in collaboration with Human Resources to support new and current Security Officers with background checks, fingerprinting and appropriate certifications.
- Participates in the National Association of School Resource Officers, Association of School Safety and other professional organizations as well as various committees related to school safety and security preparedness.
- Works directly with local law enforcement agencies during critical incident

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age
- Five (5) years’ experience in law enforcement, security or related experience to the assigned job duties and responsibilities.
- Three (3) years of leadership and/or management experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities of the assigned job duties and responsibilities.
- Bachelor's degree in the field of Criminal Justice or related field is preferred or an acceptable level of equivalent experience or job knowledge.
- Must be willing to submit to and pass a drug test upon

- Must pass a preliminary criminal background and child maltreatment check
- Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times while around students and other staff members.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must successfully pass a psychological exam
- Must be able to successfully complete sixty (60) hours of initial training, including a written exam, and pass an additional background check administered by the Arkansas State Police.
- Must meet all requirements to be a commissioned school security officer pursuant to Arkansas law (including, without limitation, Ark. Code Ann. 17-40-337).
- Must furnish own firearm and ammunition that meets approved parameters set by the
Preferred Experience or Training:
