North Homes Children & Family Services is seeking a compassionate, dedicated School-Based Youth Counselor to join our day treatment team. This is your opportunity to work in a supportive, therapeutic school setting where your work directly impacts the safety, growth, and success of young people.
Under the direction of a Mental Health Professional and/or Mental Health Practitioner, you will play a critical frontline role in supporting clients’ therapeutic progress and daily well-being.
What You Will Do:
Client Care
- Ensure the safety and well-being of clients at all times
- Provide appropriate supervision in the community, on trips, and during activities
- Maintain awareness of clients’ whereabouts and needs
- Support and implement each client’s individual treatment plan
Safety, Housekeeping & Maintenance
- Maintain daily program cleanliness standards
- Report safety hazards and help ensure a safe environment
- Follow proper vehicle maintenance and cleanliness standards
- Encourage clients to maintain organized personal spaces
- Follow all agency, facility, and program safety policies
Therapeutic Environment
- Foster a positive, structured therapeutic environment
- Act in alignment with the agency’s philosophy and goals
- Stay informed on each client’s treatment needs and functioning level
- Participate in daily therapeutic group sessions
- Build strong, productive rapport with clients
- Model and promote respect, responsibility, and caring
Handle with Care / Safety Response
- Complete Handle with Care training during orientation and annually
- Support reduction of restrictive procedures
- Safely implement restrictive procedures when necessary
Communication & Documentation
- Maintain clear, respectful communication with the treatment team
- Provide timely updates on client progress and concerns
- Complete and submit required documentation on time
Requirements
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Valid Minnesota Driver’s License
- Ability to work with a diverse client population
- Non-judgmental regarding lifestyle, race, and economic status
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Preferred:
- Prior experience in mental health or a related field
- Knowledge of therapeutic practices and principles
- Handle with Care certification (or willingness to complete upon hire)
Salary : $18 - $20
