The Department of Psychology is receiving applications for a full-time, on campus faculty teaching position starting August 2026. The preferred specialty is Clinical Psychology. We are looking for candidates with undergraduate and in person experience teaching some combination of Introductory Psychology, Integration of Psychology and Christian Faith, Counseling Theories, Personality Theories, Positive Psychology, I/O Psychology, or Social Psychology. Candidates with research experience is a plus. Licensure in the state of SC is not required. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

 

The Department of Psychology offers over 70 undergraduate students a robust B.S. in Psychology that has a track record of preparing students exceptionally well for many different fields of graduate study. The department is strongly committed to integrating the Christian faith into the study of psychology and seeks ways to support faculty and student research. The department prides itself on strong, positive interpersonal relations between faculty in a welcoming and supportive work environment.

 

North Greenville University is a teaching university of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and is a tobacco and alcohol-free campus. All NGU professors are expected to be orthodox Christians who have a strong personal faith, are role models in their piety and ethics, are regularly reflecting upon how their faith influences their discipline and are willing and able to mentor students in their own relationship with Jesus Christ. Faculty are expected to teach in accordance with, and not contrary to the university’s “Statement on Human Flourishing.” Affirm an understanding, and not teach contrary to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Teach general education and upper-level lectures as assigned (4 courses per semester).
  • Hold weekly office hours to support students academically and spiritually.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students.
  • Participate in department, school, college, and university-level meetings.
  • Participate in department-level course, curriculum, and program development.
  • Effectively utilize and monitor the learning management systems.
  • Appropriately maintain student records, grades, and attendance to ensure accuracy and security.
  • Meet all university deadlines for syllabi and grade submission.
  • Work with other majors/disciplines to meet the academic needs of students in those majors.
  • The primary focus of faculty at NGU is teaching, however, some research with students is expected and welcome in the department.
  • Actively pursue spiritual and professional growth 
  • Serve on academic committees as assigned.

    TRAVEL

    All faculty are expected to be able to travel to campus for all class sessions and occasional departmental and faculty meetings.

     

     

    Working Relationships and Schedule

    This is a full-time, nine-month position in the Psychology Department. Psychology faculty report to the Psychology Department Chair, who reports to the Associate Dean of the School of Health Sciences, who reports to the Dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences.

Qualifications:
  • An earned doctorate in Psychology with teaching experience is required, but an ABD candidate may be considered if the degree will be completed by August 2026.
  • The ability to teach introductory survey courses in psychology is required and the clinical specialty is preferred. Other potential courses are positive psychology, counseling theories, personality, and faith integration courses.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who can show evidence of excellent teaching evaluations in undergraduate courses, experience teaching in-person classes, and a willingness to spend time advising and mentoring students.
  • The strong candidate will supply evidence of teaching skills with expertise in using technology in classroom instruction and best practices in teaching within their area.
  • Another valuable skill would be a demonstrated ability to connect students with the practitioner community or their field of research or expertise.
  • Preference for a record of scholarly or professional publications.
  • Able to mentor students in their own relationship with Jesus Christ.
