Overview
The Durable Medical Equipment/Cast/Orthopedic Technician plays a vital role in the healthcare industry by ensuring that patients receive the necessary medical equipment and casting/splinting support for their health needs. This position involves working closely with patients, healthcare providers, and equipment suppliers to facilitate the proper intake, setup, and maintenance of durable medical equipment supplies and casting and splinting supplies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in patient care and demonstrate excellent service skills, particularly in an orthopedic office setting.
Duties:
- Provide exceptional patient service by assisting with the selection and fitting of durable medical equipment.
- Conduct intake assessments to determine patient needs and ensure appropriate equipment is provided.
- Utilize knowledge of ICD/CPT coding to accurately document patient information and equipment usage.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care, particularly in pediatric settings.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to effectively communicate with patients and providers.
- Employ aseptic techniques during equipment setup and maintenance to ensure patient safety.
- Regularly inspect and maintain medical equipment to guarantee functionality and compliance with safety standards.
- Assists in clinic as necessary
- Orders and maintains office supplies and equipment
- Obtains authorizations for DME and injectables as needed
Qualifications:
- Previous orthopedic office experience is preferred, particularly in roles involving patient service or care.
- Familiarity with ICD/CPT coding practices is advantageous.
- Experience working with orthopedic patients is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to apply aseptic techniques in clinical settings.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients and healthcare teams.
- A commitment to providing compassionate care and support to all patients.
- Certified OrthoTech preferred
- 3 years DME experience preferred
- Athena EHR experience preferred
- 2 years insurance authorization experience preferred
