What are the responsibilities and job description for the LREC Temporary Research Program Laborer (Sept/Oct end date) position at North Dakota State University?

This is a temporary 40 hours/week, non-benefited position beginning May 2026. The start date is flexible with the position going through harvest, ending approximately October 30, 2026. This temporary assignment at an agricultural research center is responsible for assisting scientists and specialists in the processes of a research program.


Perform seasonal tasks on small plot research trials including but not limited to planting, weeding, spraying, tilling, swathing, mowing, note-taking, collecting soil samples, disease incidence determination and harvesting.

Operating and cleaning equipment as needed including tractors, small plot combines, mowers, tillers, and sprayers.

Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive state fleet vehicles. (Must be at least 18 years of age.)

Process harvested small plot research trials including but not limited to bagging, storing, cleaning, weighing, and sample collection for quality analysis.

Keep detailed and accurate notes and research records. Record notes in database.

Assist plant pathology team in keeping lab, greenhouse, state fleet vehicles, outbuildings, and office areas clean and organized.

Assist with Field Day preparations as needed.

Assist in putting up, operating, and taking down irrigation in research trials.


Must be able to follow directions and have good communication skills.

Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.

Must be able to physically perform field duties under highly variable weather/conditions.

Must be willing to learn, be highly motivated, and be able to multi-task.

Other duties as assigned.


Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm working 40 hours/week at the Langdon Research Extension Center in Langdon, ND.

Advertised Pay:

$17 /hour. Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.
