Description & Details:

The Carrington Research Extension Center is seeking a Foundation Seedstocks Research Specialist for our Foundation seedstocks program. The person in this position is responsible for leading the seed cleaning operation, working with customers, operating equipment, and maintaining seed purity and site sanitation. The position requires diverse skills with major responsibilities to include calibrating and operating the seed mill, inventory management, assisting with field operations, completing seed orders for customers, assisting with the management of seed production, inspection, and purity, and assisting with tasks related to general CREC needs. Come join our team as we use our newly-built seed conditioning plant to serve the region.

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours at various times of the year.

Hiring Range:

$48,000 to $60,000 per year depending on experience

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy or closely related field
  • Related experience, with knowledge of field crop production and equipment operation
  • Willingness to be timely to work schedule and desire to put forth consistent and full work days
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and inspect work of others
  • Familiarity with maintaining seed purity throughout all stages of seed production
  • Current or ability to attain a North Dakota Commercial Pesticide Applicators License
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Familiarity with software programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Valid Driver’s License


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 year’s experience in Agronomy-related position or Master’s Degree
  • 3 years hands-on and practical experience in crop production
  • Experience with field equipment operation
  • Experience with agricultural pesticide and fertilizer application decisions
  • Experience with grain cleaning equipment
  • Previous experience working with customers

Attention to detail, organized, agronomy training, excellent communication skills, ability to accomplish physically demanding work, skills covering a broad range of equipment and electronic use.
