Gallery & Education Specialist

As part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota, the ND Heritage Center & State Museum is the largest museum in the state and houses more than 80,000 artifacts related to the region's history. The Gallery & Education Specialist plays a vital role in fostering engaging, interactive, and educational experiences for museum visitors. Combining the responsibilities of education delivery and gallery facilitation, this role supports the museum's mission by providing inspiring and informative learning opportunities that promote curiosity and a deeper understanding of North Dakota's heritage. The position involves conducting tours, leading programs, and supporting the development of educational content while ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for visitors of all ages.

Job Duration: This is a temporary, part-time position working approximately 25 hours per week through June 30, 2027.

Duties and Tasks

• Lead guided tours and facilitate interactive programs for diverse audiences, including school groups and families.
• Deliver educational sessions aligned with exhibition content to engage visitors meaningfully.
• Collaborate with the Education team to develop and improve educational materials and programs.
• Assist with event setup, facilitation, and cleanup for workshops and public programs.
• Share visitor feedback to enhance program quality and visitor experiences.
• Stay informed on museum collections, exhibitions, and educational best practices.
• Participate in training to improve interpretation and facilitation skills.
• Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as program needs dictate.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience communicating with the public and customers.
• Experience presenting to groups of 2-15 people.
• Ability to navigate gallery spaces and engage actively with visitors.
• Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and some evenings.
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 40 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in education, museum interpretation, tourism, or public engagement.
• Experience delivering creative interactive and inclusive learning experiences.
• Experience with program development and facilitation for diverse audiences.
