Job Summary
We are looking for a detailed-oriented medical biller to join our thriving optometry practice. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between our clinical staff and insurance providers, specializing in both medical insurance and vision plans. You will be working alongside a third party billing company, processing claims, ensuring accurate coding, timely claim submissions, and compassionate patient billing.
Duties
- Prepare and submit insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Review patient records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, and Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) classifications for billing purposes
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance companies and patients
- Verify patient insurance information and update medical records accordingly
- Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities, adjustments, and collections in compliance with healthcare regulations
- Collaborate with medical staff to clarify billing codes and resolve discrepancies promptly
- Assist in managing medical records, ensuring confidentiality and proper organization of all documentation related to billing and coding processes
- Answer billing, coverage, verification of insurance, copay and deductible questions professionally and compassionately.
- Post payments and reconcile EOBs/ERAs.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of proven medical billing experience, preferably with preference for optometry or ophthalmology background.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding standards (ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT), and DRG classifications
- Experience with medical billing processes, including claim submission and follow-up procedures
- Software Proficiency:Familiarity with EHR/PM systems (we use Crystal PM) and clearinghouses for accurate data entry and record management
- Ability to interpret medical records accurately for coding purposes
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare staff
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple claims efficiently
- Knowledge of medical collection practices and healthcare compliance regulations
- Good problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Organization, time management and prioritization abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills to resolving billing issues with patients and insurance carries
