Principal Transportation Planner - Planning and Engineering Support

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Dallas-Fort Worth region, which is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States.

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a Principal Transportation Planner to provide planning and technical expertise in support of expediting engineering-oriented projects in the region, including roadway and multimodal projects. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following

  • Coordinating with internal/external partners to determine the appropriate identification and evaluation of alternative alignments and transportation modes
  • Working with partner agencies to advance project delivery
  • Participating in public involvement activities
  • Conducting and reviewing highly technical analyses
  • Coordinating with appropriate transportation and resource agencies
  • Preparing and reviewing correspondence, technical reports, executive summaries, grant applications, and other documents
  • Preparing and delivering oral presentations

Required Skills:

  • Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, familiarity with Microsoft Teams desired
  • Familiarity with civil engineering principles, design, and project development
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing the quality of work
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods (e.g., engineering)
  • At least five years of job-related experience
  • Professional Engineer license preferred, but not required

Starting Salary Range:

Minimum of $85,798.06 – $102,957.67 annually

Since 1974, NCTCOG has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
