North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission is currently accepting applications for a full-time position as WIC - Competent Professional Authority (CPA) based in the Bradford WIC office.

Core duties include:
WIC - COMPETENT PROFESSIONAL AUTHORITY (CPA)
OBJECTIVE:
Determine WIC Program eligibility. Complete hematological testing, assess anthropometrical measurements, nutritional assessment, and assign nutrition risk codes. Prepare and implement participant nutrition education plans.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
1.
Conduct a thorough participant assessment and document identification of the WIC risk code(s).
2.
Prepare nutrition and breastfeeding care plans and document participant contacts.
3.
Prescribe and tailor food packages for participants.
4.
Deliver and document nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support.
5.
Refer participants to other health and social service programs and document referrals. Provide and document appropriate follow-up to referrals.
6.
Participate in meetings and continuing education programs as assigned.
INTERFACE:
Internal – Positive interaction with the WIC Director, WIC program staff, and North Central staff members.
External - Maintain positive rapport with WIC Program participants, representatives from other health and social service organizations, physicians, and the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education – Nutritionist (Bachelor’s Master’s, or Doctoral degree from an accredited institution with a major in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or a degree in another health science field, such as Public Health or Home Economics, with a minor in Nutrition); Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or RDN Eligible through the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR), Nutrition and Dietetic Technician Registered (NDTR), Registered Nurse, Physician’s Assistant (certified by the Nation Committee on Certification of Physician’s Assistants), or Physician.
Experience – One year of experience in the community/public health nutrition setting or one year of graduate work is recommended. When the individual has no relevant work experience, the new employee will be supervised by the Nutrition Education Coordinator until competency in the CPA role is demonstrated.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
Ability to apply advanced principles and practice of nutrition and dietetics, breastfeeding, and maternal child health concepts.
Ability to present educational information using a variety of teaching aids such as pamphlets, flyers, posters, slides, food demonstrations, breast models, etc.
Ability to present ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing, using language appropriate to the audience.
Exceptional counseling and motivational interviewing skills.
Knowledge of anthropometric measurement techniques and the use and interpretation of growth charts and prenatal weight gain grids.
Knowledge of correct hematological testing procedures.
Knowledge of correct procedures for determining WIC risk code(s) and ability to analyze participants’ nutritional needs.
Ability to interpret public health nutrition policies and procedures.
Familiarity with various community resources, including health and social services.
Exceptional customer service skills.
Literacy and language skills appropriate to address the needs of the population served.
