The Patient Access Specialist Opportunity:
The Patient Access Specialist provides essential front-line support to ensure an efficient, accurate, and positive patient experience across North Central Health Care’s tri-county region. This role performs patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and general intake functions while delivering high-quality customer service to patients, families, clinical teams, and external partners.
As a float position, this role supports multiple departments based on organizational need, maintaining continuity of service, minimizing workflow gaps, and ensuring consistent application of patient access standards across all areas.

The Patient Access Specialist Opportunity:
The Patient Access Specialist provides essential front-line support to ensure an efficient, accurate, and positive patient experience across North Central Health Care’s tri-county region. This role performs patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and general intake functions while delivering high-quality customer service to patients, families, clinical teams, and external partners.
As a float position, this role supports multiple departments based on organizational need, maintaining continuity of service, minimizing workflow gaps, and ensuring consistent application of patient access standards across all areas.
Compensation And Benefits
- The pay range for this role is $21.45 to $23.40, based on education and experience.
- This job is full-time and in person.

- As a full-time employee of NCHC, you would be eligible for the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS). The WRS is a hybrid defined benefit plan. It contains elements of both a 401(k) or defined contribution plan and a defined benefit plan. Participating staff contribute 6.95% and NCHC will match this at 100% each pay period!
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 or more years of experience in healthcare, registration, or a closely related role.
- Valid Wisconsin drivers license and use of a personal car.
- Associate’s degree in healthcare administration or a closely related field.
- 2 or more years of experience in patient access.
What a Patient Access Specialist Does At NCHC
- Perform patient registration and intake, ensuring accurate collection of demographic, insurance, and billing information.
- Float to various departments and service areas to provide coverage and maintain consistent workflow.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits; communicate coverage concerns or discrepancies to patients or staff.
- Schedule appointments for new and established patients according to organizational protocols.
- Provide outstanding customer service by greeting patients, answering questions, addressing concerns, and supporting a welcoming environment.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records in compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
- Assist patients through the check-in process, providing required forms, instructions, and support.
- Direct incoming calls, respond to inquiries, and support communication between patients, clinical teams, and other internal departments.
- Coordinate with billing, clinical, and support teams to ensure smooth patient flow throughout the facility.
- Help resolve issues related to patient accounts, registration, insurance, or scheduling.
- Maintain current knowledge of patient access policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide onboarding and training support for new team members, including cross-training in key access functions.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
