The District will be accepting applications for Lateral / Promotional Fire Engineer to fill current and future vacancies. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as specified below, in addition to the Fire Engineer Job Specifications The exam process will include an application and resume review, a written test, assessment, and an oral interview.

The District is establishing two separate eligibility lists. The first list is for internal/promotional candidates, and the second list is for external/lateral candidates, with priority given to the internal/promotional list. Practical assessments may consist of multiple job-related exercises, oral assessments or both to ensure a fair and equitable selection process for all candidates.

Job Definition

Fire Engineer is the technical working level class in the fire service. Assigned to either the Fire Operations, Training Division, or Fire Prevention. The incumbents drive and operate emergency fire apparatus; conduct fire prevention inspections; test fire equipment; conduct fire investigations; and has limited supervisory responsibilities. This class differs from Fire Captain in that incumbents of the latter have full supervisory responsibility for a fire company on a continuing basis.

Performs a variety of hazardous tasks when engaged in combating, extinguishing and preventing fires; in answering emergency medical calls, extricating and rescuing individuals from fires and entrapment, treating the sick and injured, and in operation of and maintenance of fire district equipment, apparatus, quarters: Must be prepared to act up to the rank of Fire Captain as needed and performs other related supervisory duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

· Must have three (3) years minimum of full-time career fire suppression experience, or off probation as a firefighter II with NCFPD, or currently serve in a full-time position as a fire engineer/driver operator with a California fire agency.

· Possession of a CSFM Firefighter I/II Certification or equivalent.

· California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator 1A & 1B certification or equivalent

· Incident Command System 100, 200, 700.

· Must have a High School Diploma or GED

· Must possess a current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and CPR certification by appointment and maintain throughout employment with the District.

· Must possess a valid California Driver License at time of application, and maintain a firefighter endorsement from the Department of Motor Vehicles while employed with the District.

Desirable Qualifications

· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred.

District Benefits

· PARS Retirement System – District‑participating retirement program.

· Vacation Leave (Full-Time): 56‑hour employees with up to five years of service accrue 120 hours of vacation annually.

· Sick Leave (Full-Time): 56‑hour employees accrue 12 hours of sick leave per month.

· Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance: The District contributes 80% of the premium, up to a $1,900 monthly cap; employees pay the remaining 20%.

· Life Insurance: District‑provided life insurance coverage.

Preference Points: Military/Veterans

· The candidate, upon showing proof of military service and/or prior service with an honorable discharge and involved duties and responsibilities of the kind for which military or veteran’s preference points will be awarded.

Any candidates requesting military/veterans preference will be required to submit a certified copy of the form DD-214 at the time of application.

Any candidate awarded the 5 points for military/veterans service will be applied at the end of the testing process. This will elevate the ranking of the candidate on the hiring list which will also impact the candidate’s employee seniority if the candidate is successful in the hiring process.
