Primary Purpose Of Position
The Department of Psychology, within the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, is seeking an Associate Professor with a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience/Biological Psychology . Preference will be given to candidates with a research focus in 1) substance use disorders, 2) memory and cognition, 3) applied psychology, or 4) health psychology. . The primary purpose of this role is to provide student centered teaching and clinical instruction of undergraduate and graduate level courses. Faculty in this role will provide student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, engage in program assessment accreditation-related procedures. The ideal candidate will be expected to: (i) establish and sustain a strong externally-funded research program in their field of expertise; (ii) produce an excellent record of scholarly publications; (iii) incorporate modern pedagogical skills in psychology courses to undergraduate and graduate courses; (iv)supervise and support psychology students in independent research projects; and (vi provide service to the Department of Psychology, the college and university as well as to appropriate community and professional organizations.
This is a 9-month, tenure-track position.

The Department of Psychology is a supportive community of committed faculty and practitioners whose goals are to introduce students to the ideas and concepts relevant to this discipline, encourage interdisciplinary learning, prepare students for study in graduate schools, prepare students for entry-level jobs requiring knowledge in psychology, and train students to conduct both basic and applied research. These goals are reached through quality classroom instruction, departmental colloquia, departmental student organizations, internship opportunities through independent study, and individualized research projects. The Department of Psychology has 840 enrolled undergraduate students and 30 graduate students. The department is seeking candidates to join a growing program with a highly interactive and productive faculty.
The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences ( HCHHS ) comprises six departments and the School of Nursing. The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degree programs: Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four graduate degree programs, including the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (PA program), Master of Social Work ( MSW ), Master of Science in Health Psychology and Ph.D. in Social Work, PhD in Applied Psychology, and Doctor of Nursing Practice ( DNP ). The HCHHS also hosts the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research ( CIHDER ), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement to reduce health inequities. HCHHS leverages the synergistic relationships among these departments to develop advanced academic programming, strengthen trainee mentoring, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholarly activity.
N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of 14,311 students in Fall 2024, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 36 master’s programs, and 12 doctoral programs. Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, or another closely related Psychology sub-discipline at the time of appointment.
