As a Door Storage & Retrieval Operator, you will play a critical role in managing our Automated Door Storage & Retrieval Systems (Rosie & The Claw). Your responsibilities include accurately storing and retrieving stock door slabs to support efficient production processes. With a strong focus on safety, precision, and workflow efficiency, you will ensure that our production teams have the right materials at the right time.
Door Slab Storage
- Review Store-In Queue: At the start of the workday, review the “Store-In” queue and prioritize any unfinished work from the prior shift.
- Plan Storage Strategy: Review the Incoming Door Slab Delivery Schedule and assist the Receiving Team in developing a storage strategy that maximizes space while meeting customer order requirements.
- Assist Receiving Team: Help flip door slabs and prepare door slab stacks for proper presentation into the Automated Door Storage & Retrieval System.
- Validate SKU Numbers: Confirm all Door Slab SKU Part Numbers before storing in the system.
- Accurate Data Entry: Scan or enter Door Slab SKUs and total quantities accurately.
- Monitor Workflow: Manage and oversee the workflow of door slabs being stored throughout the day.
- Handle Returns: Manage the workflow of doors returned by Production and ensure they are stored properly.
- Communicate Shift Transition: Provide an end-of-shift status update to the 2nd Shift Operator to ensure continuity.
Door Slab Retrieval
- Review Store-Out Queue: At the start of the workday, review the “Store-Out” queue and prioritize unfinished work.
- Manage Pallet Release Queue: Work with Production Supervisors to develop a pallet build strategy to optimize production efficiency and on-time order completion.
- Coordinate with Production Departments: Communicate pallet build status with relevant teams.
- Validate Pallet Accuracy: Confirm the accuracy of the “as built” door slab pallet.
- Apply Summary Sheet: Verify the Door Slab Pallet Summary sheet and apply it to the pallet.
- Deliver Pallets to Production: Ensure timely delivery of built door slab pallets to the designated production cells.
- Monitor Workflow: Track the A/P Operator Panel Release workflow throughout the day.
- Communicate Shift Transition: Provide an end-of-shift update to the 2nd Shift Operator for a smooth transition.
General Responsibilities
- Monitor System Functionality: Track the performance of the Automated Door Storage & Retrieval System, document issues in “Barbaric Bug Tracker,” and report abnormalities.
- Inspect Door Flipper: Monitor the Door Flipper throughout the day, documenting and reporting any malfunctions.
- Quality Control: Inspect door slabs for compliance with quality standards and provide feedback to the Purchasing Manager or Buyer/Planner.
- Maintain Inventory: Manage Slip-sheet Kanban inventory and ensure 100% accuracy through cycle counts and adjustments.
- Handle Damaged Doors: Fill out and process INVACT Forms for damaged slabs, label them, and report them to the responsible Buyer/Planner or Supervisor.
Shop Safety
- Follow Safety Practices: Operate machinery and equipment safely, adhering to safety protocols.
- Use Protective Equipment: Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment at all times.
- Maintain a Clean Work Environment: Perform housekeeping duties, including sweeping, storing, and cleaning, while maintaining 5S standards (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, Sustain & Safety).
- Coordinate Machinery Maintenance: Work with the Facility Manager to ensure proper maintenance of machinery, including oiling, replacing blades, and cleaning.

- Manufacturing Background: Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Educational Requirements: High School diploma, vocational school certification, or GED.
- Language & Communication: Strong ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English with well-developed oral and written communication skills.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in email, Microsoft Word, and ERP/MRP production software tools.
- Product Knowledge: In-depth understanding of stock door slabs used in manufacturing interior and exterior prehung door units.
- Team & Independent Work: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

- Clear Screening Requirements: Candidates must successfully pass a post-offer drug test, physical examination, and consent to a background check.
- Physical Endurance/Active Movement: Be prepared to stand and walk for 8 hours a day on a concrete floor, performing repetitive tasks. Frequent stooping, reaching, and bending are required to gather materials.
- Lifting Requirements: Capable of lifting up to 30 lbs. independently and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Fork Lift: Certified Forklift Operator license (to be certified in-house).
- Carrying Capacity: Comfortable carrying up to 30 lbs. independently and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Pushing/Pulling: Capable of pushing and pulling rolling carts of interior door products weighing up to 300 lbs. independently and up to 600 lbs. with assistance.
- Visual Acuity: Must have strong near and far-sighted vision
- Auditory Awareness: Must be able to hear and identify machinery sounds to ensure safe operation.
- Warehouse Conditions: Work in a shop warehouse building with variable temperatures depending on the weather.
- Schedule: Standard working hours are 5:45 AM – 3:00 PM.
- Overtime Requirements: Must be able to work overtime, including Saturdays, as needed to meet production demands.
- Protective Footwear: Impact-resistant with reinforced toe, puncture-resistant, and slip-resistant.
- Safety Glasses: Must meet ANSI Z87 requirements with side shields (provided by the company).
- Measurement Tools: Tape Measure.
- Work Attire: Shirt or sweatshirt (no hooded sweatshirts with strings, no offensive graphics), jeans or pants (no sweatpants), knee-length shorts (no gym shorts).
- Hair & Grooming: Long hair and beards must be tied up.
- Nail Length: For safety purposes, nails must not extend more than ¼” past the fingertip.
