JOB TITLE: Art Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal
OVERVIEW
The Middle School Art Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, standards-based visual arts instruction that fosters creativity, critical thinking, self-expression, and artistic skill development for students in grades 5–8 (or 6–8, depending on district configuration). The teacher creates a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students can explore a variety of artistic media, techniques, and cultural perspectives while developing an appreciation for the visual arts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and deliver comprehensive visual arts instruction aligned with state and district curriculum standards.
- Develop lessons that encourage creativity, problem-solving, artistic exploration, and self-expression.
- Teach a variety of artistic disciplines, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, mixed media, and art history.
- Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback on artistic growth and achievement.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and productive classroom and studio environment.
- Integrate technology and contemporary artistic practices into instruction where appropriate.
- Promote an understanding of diverse cultures, artists, and artistic traditions.
- Manage art supplies, equipment, and inventory responsibly.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
- Organize and showcase student artwork through exhibitions, displays, and community events.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field
- Appropriate MA DESE licensure/certification in Visual Arts.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development and effective instructional practices.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Experience teaching visual arts at the middle school level.
- Familiarity with digital art tools and technology integration.
- Experience organizing student exhibitions and community art events.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working in a school setting. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy indoor environment with work inside about 85% of the time and work outside about 15% of the work schedule. Ability to stand/sit and/or squat for extended periods of time. Perform other duties that may be assigned.

NORTH ANDOVER MIDDLE SCHOOL
North Andover Middle School serves more than 1,040 students and their families in grades 6-8. Our entire faculty and staff work with students to achieve high academic and social standards as well as personal and community responsibility. North Andover Middle School is looking for a dedicated, talented and certified Art Teacher.
Candidates should have a commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse population, experience working in middle school, proven ability to work as a member of a team, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to their own learning.
The classroom teacher is responsible for delivering high quality instructional experience consistent with the curriculum standards of the school district. Essential duties for all faculty members include: classroom instruction; conferences with students, parents and colleagues; active participation in the work of the department on curriculum development, activities and pedagogy.
Salary : $58,138 - $76,478
