What are the responsibilities and job description for the Donor Outreach Specialist position at North American Veterinary Blood Bank?
Location: Columbus, OH | Field-Based Territory Role | In-Person Position
Schedule: Full-time | Monday–Friday with required evening availability
Travel: Frequent local and regional driving required
Weekends/Overnights: No weekends
About the Role
NAVBB is seeking a driven, relationship-oriented professional to join our team as a Donor Outreach Specialist. This is a highly independent, field-based role for someone who enjoys building meaningful partnerships, managing their own territory, and taking ownership of measurable results.
In this position, you will spend the majority of your time visiting dog daycares and partner locations to educate dog owners about canine blood donation and recruit eligible dogs into our donor program.
Success in this role requires professionalism, initiative, and the ability to build trust quickly in face-to-face environments. The ideal candidate is a genuine dog lover — ideally a current dog owner — who is motivated by working toward measurable goals and takes pride in building strong community partnerships.
Work Environment
This is an in-person, field-based role. The majority of work is performed at partner locations throughout the assigned territory. Team coordination, planning, and reporting take place at a local co-working space, with a dedicated NAVBB Columbus office planned once predefined operational metrics are met. This position is not eligible for remote or work-from-home arrangements.
Schedule Expectations
- Regular evening availability required (typically until approximately 6:30 PM)
- Work hours may vary throughout the week based on outreach schedules and territory needs
- Daily schedule is managed independently based on assigned territory priorities
- This is a client-facing outreach role — not a marketing, social media, or content creation position. Performance is evaluated based on operational impact, partner engagement, and donor recruitment outcomes
What You'll Do
- Travel regularly to dog daycares and partner locations within your assigned territory, generally within a 1.5-hour driving radius of the Columbus area
- Build and maintain professional relationships with partner staff, managers, and owners
- Represent NAVBB during outreach and donor recruitment activities
- Educate dog owners on canine blood donation, eligibility requirements, and the donation process
- Recruit and enroll eligible dogs into the donor program while ensuring a positive, pressure-free experience
- Manage a dynamic daily schedule with minimal supervision
- Identify opportunities to strengthen partnerships and increase donor participation
- Accurately track outreach activity, partner engagement, and donor enrollment metrics in our CRM
- Consistently meet or exceed defined recruitment and engagement targets
This Role Is a Good Fit If You
- Are a genuine dog lover — this role is a poor fit for anyone who isn't personally passionate about dogs, as it consistently doesn't work out otherwise
- Enjoy building professional relationships and representing an organization in the community
- Are comfortable working independently and managing your own schedule
- Take ownership of performance goals and enjoy working toward measurable outcomes
- Prefer a dynamic work environment involving travel and face-to-face engagement over desk-based work
- Are energized by meeting new people and building trust quickly
- Have a track record of hitting numeric targets in a field, sales, or outreach role
Requirements
- Valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and proof of insurance
- Willingness to drive regularly within the assigned region
- 1 years of experience in territory management, community outreach, or a quota-driven field role
- Ability to manage time, travel, and follow-up independently
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
- Comfortable spending a large portion of the day driving between partner locations and conducting outreach in the field
Preferred Experience
- Territory management, community outreach, or partnership development
- Veterinary, animal care, nonprofit, or pet industry experience
- Client-facing roles requiring relationship building and independent work
- Experience representing an organization externally
- Comfortable using CRM systems or mobile reporting tools
Performance & Accountability
Success in this role is evaluated based on partner engagement, measurable donor enrollment growth, and effective territory management, reviewed at 30/60/90-day check-ins and monthly thereafter. This role requires comfort working toward defined goals and performance metrics, with accountability for delivering measurable outcomes.
Why This Role Matters
Every partnership built and every donor recruited directly contributes to saving animal lives. This role plays a vital part in expanding access to lifesaving blood products while strengthening relationships within the local pet community.
