Position Summary
The Controller for Nortek Data Center Cooling is responsible for the accounting, reporting, and control environment of a rapidly growing manufacturing business. Reporting to the CFO, this role ensures timely and accurate financial close, strong internal controls, and consistent, scalable accounting processes across multiple manufacturing locations.
As the business grows in size and complexity, the Controller will play a critical role in building disciplined, repeatable processes; strengthening the controls environment; and enabling reliable financial information to support decision‑making—while maintaining a strong focus on transactional excellence and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close & Reporting
- Own and continuously improve the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Ensure a timely, accurate, and predictable close that meets corporate reporting deadlines
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial results for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare and review financial statements and management reporting packages
- Coordinate with corporate accounting on consolidation, reporting, and technical accounting matters
Internal Controls, SOX & Compliance
- Lead the development and execution of a SOX‑compliant control environment as the business scales
- Strengthen internal controls over financial reporting, including documentation, testing, and remediation
- Improve consistency in control design and execution across multiple factories and locations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits related to the business
Manufacturing Accounting & Cost Accuracy
- Ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and cost of sales reporting across manufacturing operations
- Oversee inventory accounting, reserves, and adjustments to ensure compliance and transparency
- Partner with operations and supply chain to understand cost drivers and resolve cost variances
- Ensure costing methodologies are consistently applied and supported by reliable data and processes
Scalable Processes & Transactional Excellence
- Build, standardize, and document scalable accounting processes to support rapid growth and increasing transaction volume
- Drive transactional excellence across core accounting activities, including AP, AR, inventory, fixed assets, and close
- Identify and eliminate manual processes; drive automation and improved system utilization where possible
- Partner with corporate finance and IT to enhance ERP usage, reporting tools, and workflow efficiency
Metrics & Performance Management
- Establish and track clear metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness of transactional accounting teams
- Monitor close timeliness, reconciliation quality, control execution, and issue resolution
- Use performance metrics to drive accountability, continuous improvement, and team development
Team Leadership
- Lead, develop, and manage the business accounting and transactional finance team
- Ensure appropriate staffing, training, and capability development to support growth
- Foster a culture focused on accuracy, discipline, ownership, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller or Assistant Controller roles
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial close, internal controls, and manufacturing accounting
- Experience supporting a rapidly growing or evolving manufacturing business
- Proven ability to build structure and discipline in underdeveloped or scaling environments
Preferred
- CPA or CMA
- Experience implementing or operating within a SOX‑compliant environment
- Multi‑site manufacturing experience
- ERP experience, particularly Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI)
