REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Sailing Director will report directly to the General Manager for day-to-day operations. The Sailing Director will also coordinate and work side by side with the Director of Operations, Waterfront team, Committee Chairs, Event Chairs and Club volunteers, touching all aspects of the Club’s sailing operations.

Noroton Yacht Club is a premier sailing club located on picturesque Noroton Bay in Darien, CT. The Club’s fleets include Sonars, Melges 15, Vipers, Ideal 18’s, High Performance Big-Boat and Cruising fleet. The mission of Noroton Yacht Club is to create and foster a lifelong love of the sport of sailing, and the Club emphasizes volunteerism and community. The Club offers a variety of sailing programs and typically runs several regattas a year at the local, national and international levels. RESPONSIBILITIES
Noroton Yacht Club is looking for a passionate, experienced sailor with leadership qualities and a desire to join a vibrant, community-oriented club. The Sailing Director will lead and manage the Club’s sailing programs and support the Fleet Captains with their growth goals and competition schedules. The Sailing Director will also help maintain Club owned boats and equipment, prepare the Club for all sailing programs, and support Club hosted regattas.
The Sailing Director will be cross-functionally trained and available to assist the General Manager, Waterfront Director, Director of Operations and other Club volunteers and employees with ongoing support as needed.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
v Overall:
s Promote sailing participation at Noroton Yacht Club internally and externally;
s Develop sailing abilities of all members participating in sailing programs;
s Engage with the JSA and other regional and national sailing organizations;
s Work with all Fleet Captains to create regular dinghy and keel boat racing and/or training schedule;
s Maximize utilization of club-owned Ideal 18s and Sonars;
s Assist and work with Event Chairs and Race Committee in planning and running regional, national and/or international regattas; and
s Report plans and programs’ progress periodically to management.
v Safety:
s Serve as an on the water bosun and safety officer at regattas;
s Support and monitor safety operations at all times; and
s Be available for all required storm preparations.
v Programs:
s Assist the Program Chairs in developing schedules, manage sailing activities and help grow its membership.
s Assist Program Chairs with organizing practices and race management (including serving as race committee and/or on-the-water support).

§ Support the Junior Sailing Co-Chairs with hiring Junior Sailing instructors;
§ Manage the marketing of the program to members and the public;
§ Manage registration and waiver process;
§ Assist with program inquiries from parents;
§ Obtain Coast Guard Permits;
§ Plan and lead safety drills;
§ Collaborate with Head Instructor on lesson planning;
§ Manage and support the Head Instructor as needed;
§ Support the High Performance Big Boat Program;
§ Schedule and provide support to Chairs for JSA training and racing events;
§ Provide oversight and support for organizing and running Eastern Districts and other regattas;
§ Attend Annual JSA meetings;
§ Track Instructor Training – Power Boat, Level 1 – 3, All Instructor Workshop, Head Instructor Workshop;
§ Monitor daily coach boat maintenance checklist; implement repairs; and
§ Maintain annual Coach Boat Preventive Maintenance and Replacement Program

§ Provide support for maintenance of all club-owned sailing vessels, including FEVAs, Optimists, Ideal 18’s, and Sonars, including commissioning and de-commissioning;
§ Coordinate with the Waterfront Director and Director of Operations on maintenance needs of Junior Sailing and Race Committee support boats during the season with regular check-ups to ensure all equipment is functioning safely and properly;
§ Work with and supervise part time staff on all sailboat maintenance, repairs, and rigging.

§ Support the Club’s Communication team and Director of Operations with digital marketing efforts, newsletters, regular updates and periodic summaries of key events.
s
§ Back-up the Director of Operations and General Manager with opening or closing the Club and coverage for emergency or incidental needs;
§ Serve as Manager on Duty/Point Person for all Club matters as requested while the General Manager and/or Director of Operations is away;
§ Working with the General Manager, develop relationships and liaise with the local Clubs and sailing organisations

§ Attend weekly staff meetings;
§ Walk the patio, beach, and lawn area during the day to check in with members;
§ Manage Club on-line scoring systems;
§ Monitor and manage sailing reservations, phone calls, emails, and other customer service platforms.
§ Work with Race Committee Chairs and Facilities Manager to help build Race Committee training and ensure Club assets for conducting races are optimally equipped and prepared.
CERTIFICATIONS:
US Sailing Level 1 Certification, Level 3 preferred
First Aid and CPR Certificates
Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate
