Overview
Norma’s Academy of Dance is a vibrant dance studio located in Fairburn, Georgia. For over 50 years, our studio has served families in the South Fulton community by providing high-quality dance education in a supportive and inspiring environment. We are seeking a passionate, inspiring, and dependable Contemporary Instructor & Choreographer to work with dancers in our Young Artists Academy (YAA) program.
We are primarily seeking an instructor to teach contemporary classes and choreography on Tuesday evenings between 7:00–9:00 PM for dancers ages 6–8 and ages 9–12 at the beginner/intermediate level.
There is also potential for additional teaching opportunities with advanced dancers ages 13 as well as the opportunity to develop contemporary classes for our Enrichment (recreational) program.
This role is ideal for an educator who values both strong technical training and meaningful mentorship. While contemporary is our primary need, versatility in additional styles and experience working with multiple age groups is a plus.
Current Teaching Need
Primary Classes:
- Tuesday: 7:00–9:00 PM
- Contemporary for Ages 6–8 & 9–12
- Beginner / Intermediate level
Potential Additional Opportunities:
- Contemporary for advanced dancers ages 13
- Contemporary classes for Enrichment (recreational) dancers
- Choreography and rehearsal direction for performance and competition pieces
- Additional styles such as jazz, ballet, hip hop, tap, or modern are a plus
Key Responsibilities
The YAA Contemporary Instructor & Choreographer should embody the mission and values of Norma’s Academy of Dance in every class and interaction.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Teach engaging and age-appropriate contemporary classes for beginner and intermediate dancers
- Build strong technical foundations while fostering artistry, confidence, creativity, and self-expression
- Choreograph and rehearse performance and/or competition pieces as assigned
- Create a positive, challenging, and supportive classroom environment
- Mentor dancers and support their technical and artistic growth
- Communicate professionally with families and studio staff
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and occasional studio events
- Contribute positively to a collaborative and team-oriented studio culture
Required Skills & Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is:
- Passionate about teaching and mentoring young dancers
- Strong in contemporary technique with experience teaching multiple age groups
- Experienced working with beginner/intermediate dancers ages 6–12
- Ideally comfortable working with advanced dancers ages 13
- Creative, encouraging, and able to balance strong technique with artistry and expression
- Organized, dependable, and able to commit to a consistent schedule throughout the school year
- A strong communicator with families, students, and staff
- Versatile and open to teaching additional styles or age groups if needed
- Professional, collaborative, and excited to grow with the studio over time

Leadership Opportunity
There is potential for this role to expand into a Young Artists Academy & Synergy Program Coordinator position.
This leadership role would include approximately 5–10 additional hours per week of administrative responsibilities, such as:
- Supporting YAA & Synergy communication and organization
- Assisting with schedules, events, and student support
- Helping coordinate rehearsals, performances, and program logistics
- Supporting program development and retention initiatives

Schedule
- Tuesday: 7:00–9:00 PM required
- Additional weekday and/or Saturday hours may be available based on experience and versatility
- Additional rehearsals and performance commitments may occur during the season
Compensation
Compensation begins at $30/hour and is based on experience. Admin role will follow a separate compensation schedule.
