POSITION DETAILS:
Job Title: Wellness Associate
Status: Part Time Non-Exempt
Department: Health Living – Wellness
Reports to: Director of Healthy Living
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Wellness Associate plays a vital role in advancing the YMCA’s mission of strengthening community by
connecting people to their potential, purpose, and one another. This position supports members in achieving their health and wellness goals by fostering a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment. Through coaching,
relationship-building, and program engagement, the Wellness Associate helps members feel connected and confident in their wellness journey. Guided by the YMCA’s core values—Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility—we foster a culture that is Welcoming, Genuine, Hopeful, Nurturing, and Determined.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide member support through wellness coaching, check-ins, and answering questions related to health and wellness goals.
- Conduct wellness appointments to assess goals, background, and interests, and create individualized plans for engagement.
- Maintain current knowledge of wellness trends to share accurate and relevant information with members.
- Build authentic relationships with members; encourage connections with peers, staff, and group exercise communities.
- Utilize YMCA tools and resources (handouts, schedules, orientation programs) to increase member awareness of wellness opportunities.
- Monitor and clean equipment and wellness areas to ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming environment.
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and organizational events.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations and follow YMCA safety policies.
- Uphold YMCA standards, policies, and professional conduct in all interactions.
- Model YMCA core values and use the Y-Voice: Welcoming, Hopeful, Determined, Genuine, and Nurturing.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the YMCA’s mission and strategic goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- YMCA-approved Bloodborne Pathogens Training.
- Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification.
- Emergency Procedures Training.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
REQUIRED TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
(or willingness to complete within designated timeframe upon hire)
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training (or equivalent approved by the YMCA)
- Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification
- Emergency Procedures Training
- CPR and First Aid Certification
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. using proper technique.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and interaction on the wellness floor.
- Ability to engage in meaningful member interactions during shifts.
- Exposure to a fitness environment with varying noise and activity levels.
