Nori’s Village Market is looking to hire an enthusiastic person to join our kitchen team. Our mission is to deliver healthy, organic, and locally grown and produced foods to the greater Saranac Lake community. No kitchen experience is required, but a basic understanding of food and a willingness to learn is.
A deli cook is a hands-on team member responsible for preparing, cooking, baking, and assembling fresh food daily. The role rotates between hot production, cold assembly, and baking based on daily needs while maintaining strict standards for food safety, allergen control, quality, efficiency, and customer experience.

Major Responsibilities:
- Maintaining a clean and organized workstation before, during, and after shifts
- Preparing food to standard recipes, yields, and portion guidelines
- Follows food safety, sanitation, and allergen-control protocol
- Assembling salads, bowls, wraps, sandwiches, and specials to specs and packaging Requirements
- Maintains consistent portioning and visual appeal of items
- Accurately label, date, and store all prepared items
- Communicates product shortages, quality issues, or equipment concerns to management
- Supports team members during high volume periods
- Replenishing grab-and-go and display cases as needed and assigned
Essential Functions:
- Prepare, cook, bake, and assemble food items according to company recipes, portion guidelines, and production schedules
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and allergen-control procedures consistently
- Operate kitchen equipment and tools safely and correctly
- Communicates effectively with Managers regarding production needs, shortages, or quality concerns
- Work collaboratively with team members in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Arrive on time, prepared to work, and follow attendance and scheduling requirements
- Interact professionally with customers and staff members alike
- Assist with additional prep, cleaning, or organizational tasks outside primary station responsibilities
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours a day
- Ability to perform repetitive motions including chopping, slicing, mixing, and assembling food items
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to and approximately 40 pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, and work at varying heights
- Manual dexterity sufficient to safely use kitchen tools, equipment, and utensils
- Ability to read recipes, labels, and production lists and accurately record information
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a commercial kitchen environment
- Exposure to hot surfaces, ovens, steam, sharp tools, and commercial kitchen equipment
- Exposure to cold environments including walk-in refrigerators and freezers for short periods
- Frequent exposure to food allergens including, but not limited to, nuts, gluten, dairy, and soy
- Work may involve wet or slippery floors and requires adherence to safety procedures
- Moderate to high noise levels during peak production periods
- May be required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs
