Norfolk Elementary SchoolsNorfolk, MassachusettsJob Title: Library Media SpecialistFTE: 0.8FTEJob Summary: The Library Media Specialist develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive school library program that supports the curriculum and promotes literacy, research skills, digital citizenship, and a lifelong love of reading for students in preK through Grade 6. The Library Media Specialist collaborates with teachers to integrate information literacy, technology, and literature into classroom instruction while maintaining an accessible, welcoming library environment for all students. Qualifications: MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education library certification required.Bachelors degree required; Masters degree in Library Science, Education, or related field preferred.Knowledge of childrens literature, literacy development, and elementary curriculum.Experience integrating technology and digital resources into instruction.Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.Authority: Reports to the Building Principal(s)Compensation: FLSA ExemptWork Year: 183 Day School YearProfessional Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions): Provide direct instruction to students in library skills, information literacy, digital citizenship, and research strategies.Foster a love of reading through literature appreciation, book talks, reading programs, and curated collections.Teach students how to locate, evaluate, and ethically use information from print and digital resources.Integrate library instruction with classroom curriculum and grade-level learning standards.Support inquiry-based learning and project-based learning across content areas.Collaboration with Staff: Collaborate with classroom teachers to design lessons and units that integrate library resources and research skills.Support teachers with instructional resources, literature connections, and digital tools.Participate in grade-level meetings and curriculum development as appropriate. Provide guidance to staff on copyright, fair use, and digital resource utilization.Technology & Digital Resources: Maintain access to databases, eBooks, and digital research tools.Support students and staff in the effective use of library technology.Promote safe and responsible technology use aligned with district policies.Learning Environment: Create an inclusive, welcoming library space that supports independent reading, research, and collaboration.Supervise students during library visits and ensure appropriate behavior.Organize displays, events, and reading initiatives to promote literacy.Program Development: Plan and coordinate schoolwide literacy initiatives such as reading challenges, author visits, or book fairs.Promote community engagement through family literacy opportunities and partnerships with local libraries.Evaluate the effectiveness of the library program and implement improvements.Evaluation: Evaluation to be performed annually in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the NTA and Norfolk School Committee and pertinent regulations and statutes.Physical Working Conditions: Frequently required to reach, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch.Ability to supervise and engage with elementary-aged students.Ability to lift and move library materials and equipment as needed.Ability to use computers, library management systems, and educational technology.Salary Range: Bachelors/Step 2 $57,919 - Doctorate/Step 15 $117,048 (Based on 1.0FTE of CBA)
