What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coil Processing Specialist I position at Norfolk Iron & Metal?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Set up and operate assigned coil-processing equipment.
- Load, unload, position, and adjust steel coils and other materials.
- Monitor equipment and make adjustments as needed.
- Follow work orders and customer specifications.
- Inspect materials to ensure quality standards are met.
- Accurately use tape measures and other measuring tools.
- Package, palletize, label, and band finished materials.
- Operate forklifts and overhead cranes after completing company-provided training and certification.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
- Immediately report accidents, incidents, and unsafe conditions.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Manufacturing, machine-operation, steel-processing, or warehouse experience preferred; willing to train the right candidate.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, instructions, and safety procedures.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Ability to accurately use a tape measure and other measuring tools or willingness to learn.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Prolonged standing and walking.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and crouching.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely enter and exit forklifts.
- Ability to work near moving machinery and in areas with continuous loud noise.
