Duties

  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, and applying primers to ensure optimal paint adhesion.
  • Apply marine-grade paints, varnishes, epoxies, and specialized coatings using brushes, rollers, airless paint sprayers, and other hand tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to accurately execute painting projects.
  • Perform surface repairs such as plastering, caulking, and restoration work to ensure smooth finishes before painting.
  • Utilize knowledge of color theory to select appropriate colors and finishes for various marine applications.
  • Operate power tools and hand tools safely and efficiently during preparation and painting processes.
  • Conduct inspections throughout projects to ensure quality standards are met and surfaces are properly coated against corrosion and wear.
  • Assist with renovation projects including trim carpentry, fixture installation, masonry repairs, and framing when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean work environment by properly disposing of waste materials and ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times.
  • Collaborate with team members on construction estimating for project planning and resource allocation.

Experience

  • Proven experience in construction painting with a focus on commercial or industrial applications, preferably within the maritime or boatbuilding industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction site safety procedures and experience working on active construction or renovation sites.
  • Skilled in blueprint reading, schematics interpretation, and technical documentation relevant to marine projects.
  • Familiarity with various painting techniques including airless spray systems, brushwork, roller application, and specialty coatings like epoxy or stucco finishes.
  • Hands-on experience with plastering, caulking, trim carpentry, masonry, concrete finishing, welding, and restoration work is highly desirable.
  • Basic math skills for measurements, calculations related to paint coverage, and project estimations.
  • Ability to operate power tools such as sanders, grinders, drills along with hand tools like scrapers and brushes confidently.
  • Knowledge of construction estimating processes related to materials needed for painting projects is a plus.
  • Demonstrated handyman experience across multiple trades including carpentry, masonry, fixture installation or maintenance tasks is advantageous. Pay: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
