Position Summary
The Shop Floor Lead is the onsite operational lead responsible for daily production support, equipment coordination, vendor and center liaison duties, and select supervisory tasks. This role ensures smooth plant operations, timely material handling, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. The Shop Floor Lead will operate critical equipment as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the Beam line daily (Monday–Friday, 5:00–7:00 AM) and provide backup for the regular operator as required.
- Operate the plasma cutter as required and support the Welding Department during surges in workload.
- Serve as primary onsite contact for work release employees: escort walkthroughs and appointments, coordinate with staff and relay updates to Production Manager.
- Serve as primary contact for third party service providers (e.g., forklifts, overhead cranes, compressors, HVAC): coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance and communicate status updates to Production Manager.
- Schedule and manage pickups for waste and scrap steel containers.
- Supervise the production team when weekend work (Saturdays) is required.
- Support the Material Handling team as needed.
- Provide backup for Paint Booth operations when required.
- Provide backup for Receiving Department. Ensure all receiving transactions are completed within 24 hours to maintain inventory accuracy.
- Print and reprint travelers and production prints for the production team.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or relevant certifications preferred.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or production environment.
- Experience operating beam line and plasma equipment a plus.
- Familiarity with material handling equipment and basic preventive maintenance coordination.
- Supervisory or lead experience desirable.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machine malfunctions and process issues.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for internal coordination and vendor/center interactions.
- Organized, detail oriented, and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Basic computer skills for inventory/receiving and printing production documents.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions during off-hours or when supervising others.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs; lift up to 50 lbs. with appropriate equipment.
- Comfortable working in a shop/plant environment with exposure to noise, heat, and typical manufacturing hazards.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
