SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of joint exercise planning, designing, developing, executing to assess joint operational level-of-warfare command and control readiness; development and/or improvement of constructive exercises and programs in support of personnel readiness to conduct major operations such as war, mobilization, deployment, exercise, command and control training systems, special operations, rescue, or similar operations; knowledge of various agency (DoD, AF, Army, MAJCOM...) regulations, instructions and policies related to various elements for joint operation execution; and in-depth knowledge of the various agency command entities involved in overall planning and execution of operations and evaluations and the ability to convey advanced concepts and implement technical procedures in support of operational-level command and control exercises.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

The primary purpose of this position is: Lead joint fires exercise planner to plan, design, develop, execute, and assess AF-wide operational level-of-warfare command and control exercises and experiments supporting Component Major Command (C-MAJCOM) and Component Numbered Air Force (C-NAF) level programs to provide a realistic environment to train Joint Force Air Component Commanders (JFACC), Commander Air Force Forces (COMAFFOR), and Air Component staffs, other service commanders and staffs, joint, and coalition organizations.

- In-depth knowledge of the application of US Army military operations expertise at various staff levels as it aplies to assigned programs, operations, weapon systems, Joint Fires, logistics support and personnel readiness in support of major military operations such as war, mobilization, deployment, exercise, Special Operations, command and control, or similar operations. In-depth knowledge of the US Army's fire support systems, tactics, techniques, and automated digital systems. This position requires the planner to demonstrate they are an expert in planning, coordinating, executing, and assessing all aspects of theater Army joint fires.
- Knowledge of Air Force and command program goals and objectives; the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones; methods of evaluating the effectiveness of planning actions related to actual events; and the relationship of the various command entities involved in overall program planning and execution of military operations and evaluations of the same.
- Knowledge of the US Army component interactions at all command levels, with C-MAJCOM/C-NAF missions and relationships to determine coordination and liaison requirements and training audience strengths and weaknesses for exercise planning and execution. Skill in planning and executing various exercise mission specialties in support of C-MAJCOM/C-NAF training objectives and requires and extensive grasp of relationships between service components, interagency, and DoD staffs during crisis and conventional operations planning and execution.
- Knowledge of a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative exercise training programs methods to participate in the assessment and improvement.
- Knowledge of and ability to plan, design and execute Amry operational models and simulations (Joint Ground Game, Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation, and Warfighter's Simulation). Knowledge and familiarity of Air Force Modeling and Simulation Training Toolkit (AFMSTT) models as well as Command and Control systems - Theater Battle Management Core System (TBMCS) to include ESTAT, WEBAT tools. Desired experience in the use of JADOCs, MIRC or other collaborative tools used by an AOC. A broad understanding of the strengths and limitations of each components' fire support systems and automated tools such as the Army Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS), Command Post of the Future (CPOF), and Global Command and Control System-Army (GCCS-A), as well as how to procure and operate them in a short-term exercise environment.
- Skill to effectively communicate both orally and in writing as a professional exercise controller training mid to senior-level military commanders and their staffs.

- Plans, organizes, and manages a wide range of complex activities involved in the AF-wide C-MAJCOM/C-NAF Air Component Exercise Program and other service's (Army, Navy, Marine Corps) Component exercise programs.
- Leads response cell during execution events to control the exercise injects and storylines to meet training requirements.
- Records training audience progress and performance to meet DoD, Joint Staff, Combatant Command, Air Force, C-MAJCOM, and service component training requirements.
- Monitors, evaluates, and actively participates in strategic planning to improve organizational direction and focus using strategic planning tools and techniques.
- Represents 505 CTS with a variety of command and functional area organizations.
