The Equipment Assistant Manager plays a key role in supporting the NOLS Alaska mission to educate and inspire through wilderness expeditions. Working under the supervision of the Equipment Manager, this position helps ensure that students and instructors are equipped for safe, efficient, and meaningful field experiences. Responsibilities include organizing gear issue and de-issue days, maintaining equipment in top condition, assisting instructors with pre-course preparations, training others in repair and maintenance, and participating in equipment room operations. What does an Equipment Assistant Manager do?
- Plan, organize, and supervise students and field staff during briefing, issue and de-issue days
- Maintain equipment issue sheets and handle student equipment charges.
- Provide assistance to instructors with pre-course preparation.
- Take a leadership role in promoting a sense of ownership for course equipment.
- Prep instructors on all aspects of their course equipment needs before and after course.
- Maintain equipment in a clean, safe, and functional condition.
- Provide instruction and training and role-modeling in equipment repair and maintenance for staff, students, and instructors.
- Oversee upkeep and management of equipment room facilities.
- Understand and provide training for data entry and sales and rental transactions on the current POS system.

- Eager to live and work in a small community that shares responsibility for maintaining common areas.
