What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underground Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Field Repairs) position at SMS Equipment Inc.?
SMS Equipment is expanding our underground operations in Alaska, and we’re hiring a Heavy Duty Mechanic with hands-on experience in the heavy equipment industry. In this role, you’ll use your technical expertise to support our Komatsu underground equipment, prioritize safety, support customers’ fleets, and work hands-on with a variety of underground heavy equipment and attachments.
Base Wage: $35.94 - $51.34 per hour, dependent upon experience. Additional premiums may apply.
Location: Anchorage, AK.
Schedule: 5x2 (Monday to Friday).
What You’ll Do
- Performing assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs and complete overhauls on underground heavy equipment and attachments.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment and provide recommendations on the extent of repairs.
- Complete new equipment pre-delivery inspections, paperwork and options installations.
- Complete service reports, timecards, warranty claim documentation, procedure creation and maintenance as required.
- Define work scope to be completed and create a work schedule accordingly for yourself and/or other employees.
The role necessitates travel and involves assignments in confined underground environments at customer locations.
What You Bring
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with underground mining equipment. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Other requirements include:
- Experience in underground equipment repairs and overhauls
- New Miner Training (Underground) (40-Hour Training) is preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Troubleshooting experience with electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to maintaining and promoting a safe work environment
- Professional behavior with peers and customers
