Payroll Manager

Nobu, the international luxury restaurant brand, is looking for a dynamic Payroll Manager to join our team in NYC. This position is hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote work).

Position Summary

The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing all payroll operations across multiple restaurant locations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee wages, compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, and maintaining payroll records. This role works closely with Human Resources, Finance, Operations, and restaurant management teams to support a large, diverse workforce that may include hourly, salaried, tipped, and part-time employees.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for all restaurant employees across multiple locations.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, tips, service charges, and other compensation.
  • Review and validate employee timekeeping records and attendance data.
  • Process payroll adjustments, retroactive pay, garnishments, deductions, and off-cycle payrolls as needed.
  • Ensure timely payroll disbursement through direct deposit, pay cards, or checks.

Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to wage and hour laws, overtime requirements, tip credit regulations, and applicable labor laws.
  • Prepare W-2s, year-end reporting, and other required payroll documentation.
  • Support audits related to payroll and labor compliance.

Systems & Reporting

  • Maintain payroll systems and integrations with Paycom, timekeeping, and accounting platforms.
  • Develop and analyze payroll reports.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation.

Employee & Management Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies promptly and professionally.
  • Train and support managers on payroll procedures, timekeeping policies, and labor compliance requirements.
  • Partner with HR regarding employee status changes, onboarding, terminations, and leave administration.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise payroll specialist, where applicable.
  • Adhere to all standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure service-level standards are met.
  • Lead payroll projects, system implementations, and process improvement initiatives as applicable.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 2-4 years of payroll management experience a must.
  • Experience processing payroll in multi states is required.
  • Experience managing payroll for high-volume hourly workforces and tipped employees in the restaurant industry is required.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Paycom is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of timekeeping systems and labor management tools.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills is required.

Knowledge & Competencies

  • Deep understanding of wage and hour laws, payroll taxes, and labor compliance.
  • Deep understanding of tipping processes and calculations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-state restaurant environment
