Job Summary: Resident Advisor
The Resident Advisor (RA) provides general supervision, daily care, and a safe, trauma-informed therapeutic environment for residential clients (specifically at-risk and behaviorally challenged adolescents). This is an awake position providing 24/7 coverage, including weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Resident Support & Supervision: Assist residents with daily life skills (meal planning/shopping, personal hygiene, housekeeping), support their educational and vocational goals, and lead resident discussion groups.
- Health & Medical Care: Administer medications under DCF guidelines, provide basic first aid, and arrange/transport residents to medical appointments.
- Safety & Crisis Intervention: Maintain a harm-free environment using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) models, manage behavioral crises, monitor visitors, and document safety incidents.
- Transportation: Drive residents to school, appointments, recreational activities, and errands using a personal vehicle.
- Administrative & Team Duties: Complete daily/monthly reports and paperwork; attend weekly staff meetings and mandatory agency trainings.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Associate’s degree in a human services field and experience working with at-risk adolescents. Knowledge of Trauma Theory, Female Development, and strength-based care is required.
- Skills: Strong communication, teamwork, and basic proficiency with Microsoft 365 and web-based platforms.
- Transportation: Valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and proof of automobile insurance.
- Certifications (Required upon hire or shortly after): DCF Medication Administration, CPR, First Aid, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), and Risking Connections.
- Background Checks: Must pass a national fingerprint check, state police check, CT DCF protective service check, motor vehicle check, and out-of-state checks (if applicable), alongside providing a negative PPD (TB) test result.
