PRIMARY FUNCTION:  

This position is responsible for administering and implementing a comprehensive School Program, including supervising/assisting in all areas of academic and behavioral programming, monitoring parent and liaison activities, and direct supervision of teaching and support staff. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Virginia License in Administration and Supervision PK-12 required. 
  • Master’s degree in education or related field required. 
  • Virginia teaching license: special education endorsement preferred. 
  • Extensive knowledge and skills in implementing the Virginia Standards of Learning, utilizing effective research-based grade-level instructional strategies designed for learners with emotional disabilities and other learning disabilities. 
  • Strong knowledge base and skills in implementing a variety of evidence-based positive behavioral strategies for learners with emotional disabilities and other developmental disabilities. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience developing and administering all aspects of instructional and behavioral services to learners with emotional disabilities and other related disabilities. 
  • Must have the physical ability to work effectively with students with challenging behaviors. 

SUPERVISION: This position reports to the Assistant Director of Programs 

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Effectively employs various processes for gathering, analyzing, and using data for decision-making. 
  • Collaboratively develops and implements a school improvement plan, resulting in increased student learning. 
  • Plans, implements, supports, and assesses instructional programs that enhance teaching and student achievement in the Standards of Learning. 
  • Develops plans for effective allocation of fiscal and other resources. 
  • Communicates a clear vision of excellence and continuous improvement consistent with the goals of SECEP. 
  • Supervises the alignment, coordination, and delivery of assigned programs and/or curricular areas. 
  • Selects, trains, supports, evaluates, and retains quality instructional and support personnel. 
  • Provides staff development programs consistent with program evaluation results and school instructional improvement plans. 
  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves problems using effective problem-solving techniques. 
  • Maintains effective discipline and fosters a safe and positive environment for students and staff. 
  • Effectively coordinates the daily operation of the assigned area of responsibility. 
  • Effectively manages human, material, and financial resources to ensure student learning and to comply with legal mandates. 
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills to achieve school, community, and SECEP goals. 
  • Promotes effective communication and interpersonal relations with students and staff. 
  • Promotes effective communication and interpersonal relations with parents and other community members. 
  • Works collaboratively with staff, families, and community members to secure resources and support the success of a diverse student population. 
  • Models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions. 
  • Works in a collegial and collaborative manner with other SECEP principals, SECEP administrators, school division personnel, and the community to promote and support the vision, mission, and goals of SECEP. 
  • Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful and continuous process of professional development that results in the enhancement of student learning. 
  • Provides service to the profession, participating school divisions, and the community. 
  • Performs related work as required.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization:  Requires capacity to use equipment, devices, and/or materials used in performing essential functions 

 

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information. 

 

Mathematical Aptitude:  Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; requires the ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs. 

 

Functional Reasoning:  Requires the ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to identify problem resolution. 

 

ADA COMPLIANCE: 

 

Physical Ability:  Tasks may involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials.  Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstation. 

 

Sensory Requirements:  Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.  Some tasks require oral communication ability.
