Job Summary
Import Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the break bulk operations and import customer service duties to process the documentation necessary for import freight to clear US Customs and delivered to the final consignee in a timely and safe manner in accordance with governmental regulations.
Duties & Functions
Essential:
- Directly supervises the import staff in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws.
- Coordinates with Agents and partners and ensure that all import shipments are properly documented.
- Sort, process and distribute all documentation for incoming consolidations and direct shipments.
- Study various modes of transportation to ascertain the most efficient and timely movement of freight for forwarding and delivery.
- Distribute the above-mentioned documents to the designated Customs Brokers or other parties
with the appropriate billings. - Negotiate with trucking companies and airlines to obtain rates and guarantee of delivery.
- Arrange local deliveries for NNR customers after customs clearance when appropriate.
- Issue invoices to customers.
- Set up all necessary arrangements indicated on Advance Information for the smooth movement of import freight.
- Ensure that daily import operations are performed within the procedures and work instruction.
- Provide quotations in response to customer’s and internal requests including overseas partners if
applicable. - Assist in the implementation of customer service policies and procedures to ensure that the
service that is being provided is of the appropriate standard and level. - Assist in maintaining ISO standards if applicable.
- Monitor Key performance indicators on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and take action when production falls below standards.
- Liaison with the Branch manager to determine, and if necessary, adjust local operation policy with corporate policies.
- Perform internal ISO audits if applicable.
- Follow NNR’s quality system policy and procedures.
- Perform customer service duties with correspondence to customers and overseas partners, emails, faxes and etc.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training new employees; planning, assigning
and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. - Comply at all times with NNR USA standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient business operations.
- Attend meetings/training as required by management.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Some college preferred.
- Proven understanding of the international forwarding business and of the US Customs rules and
regulations. - 2 years prior supervisory experience in a freight forwarding operation preferred.
- Basic training in ISO if applicable.
- Proficient with Microsoft applications.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Physical requirements:
- Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
- Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, frequently and/or constantly to lift,
carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
