Job Summary:
The candidate will drive continuous improvement and sustaining Engineering activities of nLIGHT’s MOCVD growth technology. They will contribute to the development of next generation of diode lasers from concept to production. The MOCVD Engineer is responsible for maintaining and improving the quality of nLIGHT's high power semiconductor laser products produced by the MOCVD growth.
Skills required:
- A solid understanding of semiconductor physics, semiconductor material properties and photonics.
- Drives continuous improvement of semiconductor laser performance through MOCVD process enhancements.
- Experience in testing and/or fabricating semiconductor diode lasers
- Data analysis capabilities and preferred coding skills in Python, SQL, Matlab, C
- Suggest and drive continuous improvements and maintain production yield metrics utilizing wide variety of analytical techniques (such as SPC, DOE, Gauge R&R/MSA)
- Collaborate with the daily activities of engineering technicians
- Solve complex technical problems in a timely manner such that schedules (production or development) are maintained.
Requirements:
- MS with >3 years working experience or Ph.D. in Engineering (Semiconductor Physics, Optoelectronics, Material Science)
- Technical understanding of semiconductor wafer fabrication processes, material interactions, micron-scale surface chemistry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective communication with cross functional & multi-site teams.
- Preferred experience with GaAs & InP semiconductor lasers on Aixtron MOCVD tools.
- Preferred experience with mechanical drawings related to mask design, basic tool or fixture design.
- Preferred Knowledge of statistical analysis and design of experiment.
- Preferred experience with code scripting for data logging and data management
- Preferred knowledge of materials characterization techniques such as SIMS, EDX, PL, ECV, XRD

Salary level based on experience, education and skills:
- MOCVD Engineer I: $81,000 - $98,000
- MOCVD Engineer II: $90,000 - $115,000
- Senior MOCVD Engineer: $103,000 to $140,000

- Target Cash Bonus of 5% to 6% of earned wages, depending on level
