General Labor

Job Summary

The General Labor position plays a key role in supporting daily operations within the machine shop. This individual will assist with coolant and oil management, machine cleaning, deburring parts, and maintaining overall shop organization and cleanliness. The role also includes supporting the saw department, handling material movement, and assisting with various shop-related tasks. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, and takes pride in maintaining a clean and efficient workspace.

Key Responsibilities

• Coolant & Oil Management: Regularly check and top off coolant and oil levels on all machines to ensure proper operation and efficiency.
• Deburring Parts: Assist with deburring parts for large mills when needed.
• Machine Cleaning & Maintenance: Clean and maintain filters on all machines and assist with preventive maintenance (PM) tasks as required.
• Shop Cleanliness & Organization: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment throughout the shop.
• Monthly Machine Cleaning: Perform a full wipe-down of all machines from top to bottom each month to ensure optimal performance and appearance.
• Saw Department Support: Assist in the saw department with running the saw and pulling material as needed.
• Material Handling & Driving: Help with driving duties for the machine shop and miscellaneous tasks (such as material pickups or deliveries).
• Chip Hopper Management: Safely dump chip hoppers using a hi-lo (forklift).

Qualifications:

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Forklift (hi-lo) experience preferred, or willingness to be trained.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education : High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience : Two to four years related experience operating a lathe or vertical mill.

Vocational school or machine trades class is helpful.

Computer Skills

Ability to be trained to use Syteline effectively.

Certificates & Licenses

Ability to be trained to operate warehouse equipment such as a hand truck.

Ability to pass Hi-lo driver exam and receive a hi-lo license.
