Job Summary:
An Assistant Manager is a key member of a management team, providing support and assistance to the Manager in overseeing and coordinating daily operations. They are responsible for supervising employees, managing schedules, implementing company policies, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Assistant Managers may also be involved in hiring and training new staff, handling customer complaints, and maintaining inventory and financial records. They play a crucial role in maintaining a smooth and efficient operation within their assigned department or area.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Monitors work force at assigned locations to coordinate maintenance and clean up activities and to ensure equipment is inspected in accordance with FRA and NJ TRANSIT regulations.
- Plans, directs and supervises scheduled/unscheduled repairs on assigned equipment.
- Plans and directs FRA required periodic inspections. Performs Quality Assurance inspections on assigned equipment for compliance with established standards.
- Coordinates equipment manipulation with the Mechanical and Transportation Departments to ensure effective equipment utilization, complete consists, and to maximize schedule compliance for Terminal Department.
- Maintains force inventory, and operates within overtime and material budgets for favorable variances.
- Assumes responsibility for turnaround and layover servicing on assigned equipment.
- Assumes responsibility for safety of assigned employees, equipment and passengers.
- Provides all written communications, productivity reports and other areas of coordination to Mechanical and Line Division.
- Provides for training of subordinates and craft workers through scheduling and mentoring.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering or related technical area, or graduate of an accredited mechanical trade school.
- Five (5) years experience in rail equipment maintenance including three (3) years of supervisory experience.
- One (1) year of closely related experience may be substituted for each year of Education required.
