Program Description: The intern project will focus on data and report archiving, the creation of historical IEC CKEs using ArcGIS Pro, and the preparation of case closeout reports. Many historical Unknown Source IEC cases were initiated before the Department implemented its electronic database (NJEMS/PEGA). As a result, electronic case records were created after the original Unknown Source/Receptor investigations had already been completed. These legacy cases now require review to verify the accuracy and completeness of the information available through OPRA requests and the Department's online ArcMap viewer.
Project Description: To support this effort, the intern will review Unknown Source investigation reports, ICU sampling records, Health Department sampling data, and other available electronic and archived paper files to reconstruct case histories, evaluate case progression, and determine whether additional investigation or follow-up is warranted. Through data compilation, report review, and ArcGIS Pro mapping, the intern will assess database accuracy, develop historical IEC CKEs, and prepare final ICU closeout reports for applicable cases.
Specific to the Position: Must be organized, able to think critically, adaptable, communicative, and a good technical writer.
Preferred Area of Study: Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or in Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, or Physical Geography; or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
