Under the direction of the Commissioner and/or Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Insurance, provides executive guidance and direction, and establishes policy regarding the operation of more than one major operating Division or Units; does related work as required.


The New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance seeks an experienced leader to serve as Assistant Insurance Commissioner, Office of Property and Casualty. Reporting to the Director of Insurance, the Assistant Commissioner, P&C plays a critical role directing the Department’s actuarial analysis and oversight of rates, new products, policies, and forms in the property and casualty sector.


This position also directly advises the Commissioner and executive management team, evaluating and proposing statutory and regulatory changes, and serving as a subject matter expert.

Given the size of the market, the Office of Property and Casualty represents a significant unit within the Division of Insurance, facilitating engagement with more than 100 insurance companies over multiple lines of business.


The Assistant Commissioner, P&C is responsible for managing the team, supervising the workflow and processes, establishing policy guidelines, and navigating new industry issues as they arise. This position is tasked with ensuring filings are reviewed in accordance with regulatory requirements; overseeing the preparation of technically sound, accurate and informative market, statistical, financial, and other reports that may contain findings, conclusions, and recommendations; and reviewing responses to inquiries and complaints.


This position plays an important role communicating with industry representatives on a regular basis, and represents the Department with industry boards and committees, including those relevant at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and in public forums. The Assistant Commissioner, P&C also oversees preparation and monitoring of budget, personnel, and other administrative functions of the Office, including workforce development and operational performance.


REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree.

NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience as indicated above on a year for year basis.


Eight years of administrative experience in insurance programs; four years of which shall have included managerial experience.

• Experience with new products and navigating new policy considerations preferred

• Experience with government agencies a plus

• Systems thinker, able to manage large workflows, driving prioritization and increased efficiencies • Curious and expansive thinker – able to evaluate new policies holistically

Salary : $165,000 - $175,000
