What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Studies Teacher (Grades 7-8) position at Nixa Public Schools?
Primary Tasks & Major Activities
Responsible for planning lessons, carrying out effective instruction, and evaluating student progress toward learning goals. Accountable for creating a positive and productive classroom learning environment. Must engage the learner through novel and insightful approaches to Social Studies instruction. Implementation of Junior High Social Studies curriculum. Communicate effectively with parents on student comprehension and progress. Must be able to work effectively as a member of a Professional Learning Community in a team environment. Participate in District and Building Professional Development opportunities. Support the Jr. High Building Improvement Plan and district Continuous School Improvement Plan.
Educational/Skills/Experience Required
Missouri certification in Social Studies at the 7-8 grade level. A strong knowledge of the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP), Missouri Learning Standards, and effective instructional strategies. Experiences in middle school instruction are a plus. An interest and experience in coaching is desirable. Willingness to understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Must successfully pass a background check and drug test that are satisfactory to the Board of Education.
